Overweight Family Loses an Incredible Total of 380 Pounds

Dramatic weight loss stories can be utterly inspiring. But this one isn't the typical story you're used to hearing about.

A family of three had been battling obesity for years, but eventually managed to lose a combined total of 380 pounds.

In December of 2010, Ed Olson of Layton, Utah weight 315 pounds. But that all changed when he saw health expert Dr. David Kessler promoting his book called "The End of Overeating" while watching "Bill Maher." Olson then purchased the book and began to change his eating habits, which quickly caused his wife, 298-pound Lori and son, Kyle, to do the same.

This family worked together to lose an incredible amount of weight.

"We were all on the same track, and it was much easier knowing they had the same goals I did that I was able to reach my goals," Kyle said. "Seeing the great success they were having I only wanted to join in and share it."

Ed lost 140 pounds in 18 months, Lori lost 150 pounds in two years, and Kyle went from 245 pounds to 155 pounds.

Lori said that she used to cook her family dinner by utilizing fattening and highly processed foods. "I thought I was being healthy by serving salad, but we would drown it in ranch dressing." But Lori ditched that habit and picked up a new one: incorporating lean meats, fish, vegetables, fruits and healthy fats into her family's meals. "The first four to six weeks were hell. I didn't know if I was going to be able to do this. I had not eaten healthy or exercised in many years," she said.

Exercise was also an intricate part of their weight loss. Kyle picked up bodybuilding and Lori walked on the treadmill for 20 minutes four days a week. After losing 99 pounds, she began working out with fitness DVDs. Ed walked or jogged outside for three miles each day.

"It really kept us motivated to know that we were both working toward the same goal," Lori said. "We were very supportive of each other when we reached small goals along the way. We continue to support each other daily." This family worked together to lose an incredible amount of weight. Lori also noted that no one in the family is experiencing joint pain anymore. "My energy level is so much higher than it ever was when I was heavy," she said. "Life is so much brighter all around. I feel like I'm a better wife and mother." What do you think of this weight loss story? Source: Daily Mail
