Pain-Killing Foods #14: Turmeric

If you're looking for delicious, exotic spices to add to your meals, look no further than turmeric! Not only is it a delicious addition to any Indian/Asian meal, but it's one of the best pain-killing foods in your house. Turmeric contains a special compound called curcumin, which has been proven effective at reducing inflammation and swelling in the body. The spice has been used as an Indian remedy for centuries, but science has yet to prove how or why it works. By reducing the inflammation in the joints, turmeric helps to reduce the aches and pains. It may help to deal with both rheumatoid and osteoarthritis, though the scientific evidence is still lacking. However, studies have found that it can:
  • Stimulate the bladder to produce bile
  • Reduce indigestion
  • Stop the reemergence of ulcerative colitis
  • Prevent atherosclerosis
  • Help to prevent/treat cancer of the skin, breasts, colon, and prostate
Definitely a good reason to add this delicious spice to your meals!
