Who doesn't love peanut butter and jelly sandwiches? They are one of the staples that everyone seems to have grown up with. Often though the PBJ gets boring or the kids want something with a little more flavor, so here are some great options. Remember to always use a whole wheat bread to keep out those simple carbs. Veggie Cream Cheese and Cucumber: This is a great way to get some veggies in and if you don't want to use the cream cheese you can always substitute for some delicious hummus. Hummus and Chopped Peppers: Protein, complex carbs, and veggies in this amazing meeting of the minds. Light Spreadable Cheese, Ham, and Grated Carrot: You won't even bee able to notice the carrot in this delicious sandwich. Tuna Salad and Sliced Tomato: In an effort to keep the tuna salad light, opt for half of an avocado instead of mayonnaise then add in some spices and mustard for a great kick. Apple Butter and Apple Slices: Apple butter is an incredibly delicious and healthy alternative to peanut butter. Try and go for sugar free. Blueberry Cream Cheese and Strawberries: Cream cheese isn't always the best option but you can mix blueberries into greek yogurt for a healthier alternative. Almond Butter, Slivered Almonds, and Dried Cranberries: Almond butter packs a mean amount of protein and with more sliced almonds you'll be going for a while on this powerhouse sandwich. Don't go overboard on the almonds or cranberries and go for the lower sugar version when buying dried cranberries. Whipped Cream Cheese and Fresh Blueberries: This is a great way to get a sweet treat without having to sacrifice your entire day to bad and empty calories. Reduced Sugar Jam and Cream Cheese: Go light on the cream cheese and also consider adding in some sliced almonds for some protein.
