Why People Need to Shut Up About Maria Sharapova Grunting at Wimbledon
Maria Sharapova is a tennis legend, reaching the fifth Wimbledon semi-final of her career. However, people don't seem to care as much these days about Maria's athletic triumphs. They are far more conceded with what concerns them, her grunting.
Yes, Maria like many other tennis players grunts during games. The vocalizations are at top volume and sometimes makes it sound like the poor woman is in serious pain. Some crowd members employ ear plugs when watching particular matches to drown out the shrieks.
Despite being hailed "disgusting", "unsexy" (which should obviously be a tennis player's biggest concern on the court, sex appeal. 'Yes she did win the championship, not due to her lack of sex appeal, she was not awarded the trophy'. Psh, please) and "annoying", grunting serves a very good purpose.
Grunting not only helps release tension in a play, but can also mask the echo of ball and totally throw off the opponent. It's legal according to tennis rules, and thus shouldn't be a concern.
Everyone needs to focus on why she's on our screen in the first place: to kick some serious ass as a strong, sexy, fit and inspiring female athlete! You go Maria!
