Photographer Refused To Shoot Miley Cyrus For Marc Jacobs Campaign
Marc Jacobs shoots a yearly editorial campaign complete with all of the season's newest looks, just like most other fashion houses. Marc Jacobs is slightly different than most houses as he always has the campaigns photographed by Juergen Teller. In an interview with WWD, Marc said that, “I have worked with Juergen for years and love him as an artist,” Jacobs said. “He just didn’t want to shoot her.” There was no reason given for why Juergen refused to photograph Miley.
Marc Jacobs, however, has been on friendly terms with Miley for years and felt that his selection of her as the cornerstone of the campaign was perfect. Marc Jacobs explained to WWD, that the spring runway collection is quite different from the sulky and broody look that he wanted for the shoot and that Miley fit the aesthetic he was looking for.
Throughout 2013 Miley polarized much of Hollywood and the US with twerking and tongue wagging and strange bears and the minimal amount of clothes. It was rounded off with a "love me or hate me" vibe. Although at the end of the day she has quite a bit of courage (if that's the right word) and thick skin if she can continue stirring the pot in this way.
While Miley may be possessed of courage or craziness...she is a polarizing person. Something Marc Jacobs must be well aware of. Juergen Teller, however, is also quite brave. By refusing to photograph Miley he could have been jeopardizing all future work with Marc Jacobs. But then again Juergen might have young daughters that are looking at and watching Miley, and perhaps that's not the example he wants set for them. At the end of the day though, we all can disagree with the way in which a person lives their life, we just don't have the right to force change.
