Playboy: Behind the Scenes
Patrick Van Dam’s book “Playboy Behind the Scenes” published back in 2011, gives the ultimate look at what it takes to create the sexiest photos for the sexiest magazines, often in utterly unsexy ways. And there’s a foreword from the Hef himself!
"Working in the film industry, I have always maintained that it often takes about 20 really sweaty people, cramped into compromising positions, doing ridiculous things, in order to make 1 or 2 people look really good. I cannot count the amount of times I’ve had to use a leaf blower for unconventional reasons, or hairspray pizza to make it look fresh, or rub down an actor with cocoa powder to make him look dirty."
The Dutch art director and photographer directed nude photo shoots for Dutch Playboy for seven years, so he’s seen his fair share of playboy shenanigans.
I think it’s really fun to be reminded of the reality behind those glamour shots, lifting the veil around sexy starlets to reveal electrics or grips with a light meter or a flexfill.
