Protein Powder Mocha

I’ve realized that I am just not a protein powder fan. I really do think the chocolate protein powder I have should be called “chalk-olate” because that is what it tastes like, chocolate flavoured chalk. There are a few smoothie recipes that I can use that mask that chalky taste, but I’m not a huge smoothie fan either. You know what I am a fan of? Coffee. So I decided to combine what I like with what I know I should be having more of, and landed on this delicious mocha recipe. Ingredients:
    • 1 scoop of protein powder
    • ¼ cup almond milk or milk of choice
    • 2 tsp cane sugar (or sweetener of your choice)
    • Coffee
Directions:
  1. Brew the coffee, you’ll want it to cool a bit before mixing it with the protein powder.
  2. In a large mug add the protein powder, sugar, and milk, mix vigourously until smooth.
  3. Once the coffee has cooled a bit (the protein powder will clump if it’s too hot) add to the mug and mix vigourously. Enjoy!
Very simple, possibly even a no-brainer to some, but it took me a while to think of it so I thought I’d share. It also took me a while to understand why the protein powder would clump in my coffee but not in my smoothies, but as long as you mix the protein powder with the milk first, and so as long as it’s not piping hot coffee, this mocha should be clump-free (and mighty tasty). If you have a frother then make use of it, probably easier than vigourous mixing. You could also make this iced by sticking the coffee in the fridge for a while before mixing it in, then pouring the whole mixture over ice.
