Just before we jump into today's workout I wanted to talk to you about the importance of taking care of YOU first.
One of the hardest places to find yourself is stuck between choosing to take care of yourself first over the needs or wants of someone else.
We've been taught that thinking of ourselves first is greedy, or selfish or mean. When it comes to taking care of ourselves on a deeper level we often feel conflicted and choose to put the needs of others before what we know we need to be happy. It's just easier to compromise and put everyone else first. That way we don't have to deal with guilt, drama or pressure that often comes with disappointing someone else's expectations.
Eventually tho you will look around and realize that most of your life is running according to other people's play books. You might look around at your own life and wonder - what the hell is in this for me? When you always put everyone else's needs before your own you can start to feel disconnected and loose your sense of purpose. Don't let this happen to you.
We all know when we need something, and usually we even know what we need. The hard part comes in taking action and asking for it. Dealing with other people's emotional responses, disappointment and guilt tripping is part and parcel for standing up straight in life and looking after yourself. Only after you've covered your own basic needs can you realistically be in a position to care for those around you.
Your decision to look after you might cause a ruckus with friends and family, but in the end it's better to ruffle a few feathers now then start to feel resentment against those around you fostered from your inability to take care of your own basic needs. Don't let it come to bitterness and resentment. Take care of you first - you will be a better person for it.
