Ronda Rousey Finds an Inspirational Way to Connect With Her Fans
Athletes and celebrities connect with their fans in all sorts of creative ways, but badass MMA fighter Ronda Rousey wants to bring her fans into the ring with her—at least their words of inspiration.
UFC superstar Ronda Rousey may seem intimidating when she's facing off or being photographed for promotional purposes, but don't let that fool you. Rousey doesn't want to scare people off, unless they're her opponent, of course.
As a means to better connect with her fans, the mixed martial artist has started the hashtag #MoreThanTape, which gives fans a place to express how she has helped to inspire them. Reebok will take those stories, pick their favourite, and print them right on the hand tape Rousey will be using for her upcoming November fight against Holly Holm.
“My coach Edmond [Taverdyan] started [writing] things on my wraps—little crosses or he would write a little message for me in Armenian and I wouldn’t even know what it would mean but for some reason it was just extra-sentimental or lucky,” Rousey notes of where the inspiration to start this came from. “At first I used to just cut them off and throw them away. Then we got this cage and I started taking my wraps off and rolling them in a perfect ball. One day I threw a ball back there and said ‘I’m going fill it up.’ I kind of like having a visual for all the days of hard work we put in here.”
What do you think of this idea Rousey created?
