Science Determines This Particular Group Of People Tends To Drink More Alcohol
When you think of people who like to drink, who comes to mind? Likely you are thinking about young people, college students perhaps, having a great time and letting loose before life and responsibilities get in the way. If you live anywhere on, or near a college campus, you know this is a reasonable assumption. Well, you are completely wrong!
A recent study conducted by Penn State University asked 150 men and women between the ages of 18 and 89 to record how much they were drinking and exercising over the course of 21 consecutive days. Over the course of a year, the participants recorded their drinking and exercise habits for three 21-day periods.

This is where it gets interesting. The results showed that exercisers like to drink! What's more, on days they worked out harder than usual, they drank more!
This is perhaps because both exercise and alcohol activate the reward centers in the brain. When you're feeling positive post-workout, you want to keep those good times rolling!
It's okay to enjoy a few beverages, but it is important to keep your consumption moderate and to never drink before a workout. If you drink before a workout, your body will have a more difficult time circulating glucose, which is what the body uses to produce energy.
However, there is a downside to pounding back a few beers after a workout. Alcohol makes it harder for your muscles to recover - it's a serious downside. If your muscles can't recover, you won't see the results you've been working so hard to get. As you know, rest and recovery are a major part of fitness gains.
Interesting results, right? So much for the clean eating, green smoothie drinking stereotype.
Are you surprised by these findings? Do you like to grab a few cocktails after a workout?
