Science Says This Is the Secret to a Woman's Marital Bliss

Marriage is a constant journey, and for everyone the ups and downs vary. But a new study has narrowed down exactly what makes things work. You might be surprised at the biggest trait a woman wants. While common interests, positivity, a sense of humor, regular sex, trust, patience and devotion all come to mind, new research suggests that how tall a man is may be a big factor. One of the biggest parts of a happy marriage revealed.Researchers studied happily-married couples and discovered that the greater the height difference in a couple, the happier the wife seemed to be. But while this proves important early on, the effect fades as the years go by. "Although it has been known that women prefer tall men in mating for evolutionary reasons, no study (before this one) has investigated whether a taller husband makes his wife happier," explained researcher Kitae Sohn, from Konkuk University in Seoul, South Korea.

"A greater height difference in a couple was positively related to the wife's happiness." He also said that as time went on, the relationship between height and happiness eventually dissipated. "Nevertheless, the long period of the dissipation indicates a powerful impact of male height on women's psychology, probably prepared by evolution," he noted. But as for the relationship ... what gives? "One is the intrinsic value of height; that is, women simply like tall men, while unable to say why," Dr Sohn, who reviewed data from 7,850 women gathered from a long-term population survey, wrote in the journal Personality and Individual Differences. "This is similar to people favouring fatty, salty, and sugary foods without knowing exactly why: such foods are essential to survival but were scarce as humans evolved - hence craving such foods increased reproductive fitness in the past.

"Similarly, the female preference for male height increased women's reproductive fitness." He also provided plenty of scenarios as to why height might lose its influence. The wife, for instance, "might get used to her husband's height and its correlates such as physical attractiveness and strength", he said. Or perhaps she "might lose her characteristics that enabled her to marry her tall husband, such as beauty; the loss could cause her unhappiness directly or indirectly by changing her husband's behaviour, such as showing less affection to her, more affection to other women, and providing less childcare," he continued. Women have taken a liking to tall men because they connect it with strength,"and naturally they are happy when they have what they like," he said. What seems surprising is that it takes a total of 18 years for the desire to be totally eliminated. Do you prefer a tall man, or does height not matter to you?
