Shocking Selfie: Skin Cancer Victim Shares The Truth About Tanning
Former sunbed tanning addict Tawny Willoughby shared this shocking selfie of the painful scabs and sores on her face as a warning.
After tanning herself in a sunbed nearly 5 times a week in her teenage years, Tawny was given the horrifying diagnosis of skin cancer at only 21 years old. As a young teen, she frequented tanning salons to keep her sun tan from fading. She now deeply regrets her chose.
Tawny is now 27, and has been suffering for 6 years. She visits her dermatologist once a year, and often must have a new bout of cancer removed from her scarred face.
"Wear sunscreen and get a spray tan. You only get one skin and you should take care of it. Learn from other people's mistakes. Don't let tanning prevent you from seeing your children grow up. That's my biggest fear now that I have a two-year-old little boy of my own." the nurse and mother warned her Facebook following. After posting her brave picture, she has gained many likes and supporters. She hopes her face will stick in the minds of those who are tanning addicts like she once was.
This summer remember to take the proper precautions when exposed to the sun, and do not use sunbeds to gain that glow! Sunbeds and indoor tanning come with many dangers, from eye damage and premature aging skin to very serous cancers.
