Since When Did the Nude Female Body Become Slutty?

November 28, 2014 2 min read

Ahhh, nudity. It seems like everyone has their own opinion on the subject. Ever since Kim Kardashian and THOSE naked photos of her big greasy bare body broke the headlines, people have been turning their heads, dying to make their opinions heard. But, why all of the buzz? Why is it a big deal? Nudity began in the Garden of Eden with Adam & Eve. They were happy, naked, and then they sinned. Because of this, their eyes were "opened to their nude state." And you know how the rest of the story goes... But, what if they never sinned? Would we all still be roaming around nude? Would nudity be that big of a deal? 28273_1346255218247_5118006_n Nudity has been celebrated for years and years, continuing with famous artwork such as The Birth of Venus with Aphrodite (my favorite!) and Michaelangelo's "David" Sculpture, both shown below. 28273_1346255218247_5118006_n 28273_1346255218247_5118006_n   Nudity has also been expressed through photography over the years as art as well. For all of you fitness buffs, you may or may not remember good ole Arnold Schwarzenegger baring it all. He was even praised for the photo. It was TOTALLY  artistic in the eyes of the public.. But what makes this different than Kim's? Honestly.     Ahhh.. but I know what you are thinking. Kim Kardashian is a slut who only wants attention so that is why she got naked. She does not care about art. Perhaps, maybe she is. Her motive and mentality behind the photography should not be the point.. You may not view it as an art, but hey, that is where it is what it is: just another opinion. Art comes in many different forms, after all. And then came the comments about how mothers should not get naked. Maybe movies like American Pie, the pornography industry, and the term "M.I.L.F" has ruined the opportunity for mothers (and females in general) to embrace their bodies and sexuality, but that stipulation is poor, at best. I love what this article from The Grio has to say about the topic of nudity and motherhood: "On the flip side – those of you saying that Kim Kardashian needs to put on some clothes simply because she is a mother also need to sip a big champagne glass of “Girl, Bye!” Because this antiquated idea that mothers are not allowed to celebrate their sexuality is ridiculous and naive. How exactly do you think women become mothers? Immaculate conception? I’ve never been a fan of policing other women’s bodies, and I’m not about to start now. Ya’ll can have that." Shaming women's bodies does not stop here. We see it almost daily on the BodyRockTv Facebook page. The funny thing is, these comments come from WOMEN. "This is pornography!!" "Why does she have to be half naked!?" "That's it, I am unfollowing!" Since when did the female body become slutty?
