Sneaky Meat-Free Proteins #2: Lentils
Legumes and I have never gotten along, and lentils are one of the legumes I could never quite stomach. However, as far as meat-free proteins go, it doesn't get much better than lentils!
Lentils contain about 9 grams of protein per 100 grams, making it the THIRD best non-meat source of protein. These nifty legumes also offer A LOT of health benefits:
Fight cholesterol -- The soluble fiber in lentils helps to fight cholesterol, reduce your risk of strokes and heart attacks, and boosts heart health.
Control blood sugar -- Once again, fiber to the rescue! Thanks to the fiber in the lentils, the carbs you eat are digested more slowly--reducing blood sugar spikes!
Improve digestive health -- Turns out lentils can reduce your risk of constipation and IBS.

Lentils are an excellent weight loss food, as they are supremely low in calories (for a protein) and are VERY filling. You can eat a nice big bowl of lentils with brown rice and veggies, and you'll be full for hours!
