Sports Illustrated Cover Model Kate Upton Reveals That She "Felt Terrible" After Her Cover Shoot.

August 08, 2013 1 min read

Despite having appeared in the world famous Sports Illustrated's Swimsuit Edition three times and making the cover in 2012, and 2013, Upton tells the September issue of US Elle magazine that after the first time she was featured on the cover she felt horrible:

After my first Sports Illustrated cover, I felt terrible about myself for a solid month...I"m not a toy, I'm a human. I'm not here to be used. I'm a grown woman, and you need to figure your shit out

Ms. Upton also responded to critics that claim she doesn't have the typical "model body" (yes people that would take the time to write these criticisms actually exist) saying:
I don't really take offence to it. I'm fine with it. I really do like my body and growing up in Florida, it was always a good thing if you could fill out a bikini
This made me wonder just how common this feeling of loathing is for models and actresses that appear so radiant and confident on the covers of popular magazines. I applaud Kate for speaking out against the perception that appearing on the cover of what is essentially a wank magazine is the pinnacle of achievement and self-confidence for young women. It will be interesting to see what the PR spin is by Sports Illustrated to get us to forget this little blip.
