Starbucks Issues Major Recall Due To E. Coli

It always seems that we get through one E. coli outbreak and another one comes along hot on its heels. Sure, we hear about mass recalls on produce and prepared foods in grocery stores but now our favourite restaurants are taking a hit. Starbucks, say it ain't so! Starbucks is recalling a panini from stores on the West Coast after an ingredient tested positive for E. coli.  INPOST-recall Escheria coli, for those that don't know, is a bacteria that lives in your intestines. While usually harmless, and a part of all healthy guts, some of the bacteria can cause stomach cramps, diarrhea, vomiting, and fever. The majority of people recover from this illness within a week but children, the elderly and people with compromised immune systems are particularly vulnerable. In these cases, E. coli can cause life threatening infections. INPOST-recall2 [bctt tweet="Starbucks Issues Major Recall Due To E. The blend was being used in a chicken salad at Costco and 19 people have become ill from consuming it. Starbucks used this same blend in their Holiday Turkey and Stuffing Paninis which have now been recalled as a precaution. The recall affects paninis sold in California, Oregon, and Nevada between November 20 and November 28. That covers 1,347 different Starbucks locations, and fortunately there have been no reported illnesses. This celery recall also includes prepared foods sold at Albertsons, Safeway, and Costco. If you have a product from one of those locations and are concerned about contamination, check the FDA's full announcement here. Source: Delish
