Strange Signs You May Be Experiencing Iron Deficiency

Feeling like you can barely get up a flight of stairs or get in a quick workout lately, despite the fact that typically, you're quite energetic with a go-getter attitude? You may be experiencing iron deficiency, the most common nutritional deficiency in the United States. It's also important to note that women are at a higher risk of this due to menstruation. Most commonly caused by your body's inability to absorb iron, this deficiency is a common side effect of medicines from surgery, insufficient red blood cell production, or blood loss. But while some symptoms of this, like fatigue, tend to be expected, there are other weird symptoms that you may never associate with your iron levels. Here are three to be watchful for.
  1. The desire to eat dirt
dirt This is a side effect of people with severe iron deficiencies. If you often crave dirt, clay, corn starch, paint chips, cardboard, and cleaning supplies, you may be suffering from a condition called pica. 2. Cracked lips cracked lips Cracked lips may seem like a thing anyone experiencing winter, a dry room, or the habit of licking their lips may be subject to, however those with iron deficiency can suffer from a specific type of cracking at the corners of the lips known as angular cheilitis. 3. A constant craving for ice ice This is called pagophagia, and it's one of the top symptoms for severe iron deficiency. Doctors aren't totally sure of why this happens, but it may be because chewing ice can create an alertness in those sufferers who experience fatigue. What do you think of these strange symptoms?
