I love to make my own milk, so I have include an easy recipe for homemade hemp seed milk, one of my favorites. Hemp seeds have loads of health benefits. They are a great source of vegan protein, and contain many essential amino acids and fiber. Hemp seeds also contain vitamin E, as well as a perfect 3 to 1 ratio of the important omega 3 to 6 linoleic acids. They are easily digestible and a perfect source of phytonutrients and polyunsaturated fatty acids. You can find hemp seeds online, or in the health/vitamin section of most grocery stores. Other super-food ingredients in this smoothie are chia and flax seeds. Chia seeds have long been touted in the news as being a powerful super food. Some of the main benefits of chia seeds are: a great source of energy, helps to balance your blood sugar, helps to curb food cravings, is the richest source of omega 3s and it has age defying antioxidants. Flax seeds help in the prevention of cardiovascular disease, cancer, stroke and diabetes. It also contains omega 3, manganese, vitamin B1, fiber and magnesium. You can find flax seeds in the bulk food aisle or health/vitamin aisle of your local grocery store, as well as online. Now that we know how amazingly healthy this smoothie recipe is, let's get started! For the hemp seeds milk you will need: - 1/3 cup organic hemp seeds - 3 cups filtered water - 4 pitted dates For the smoothie you will need: - 2 to 3 cups frozen strawberries (if you are freezing them yourself, remember to ripen them all the way. The more ripe the sweeter and the better for you! - 2 cups hemp milk (or any milk you prefer) - 1 cup filtered water - 2 scoops chocolate protein powder (about 1/2 a cup) - 1 tbsp. raw cacao powder - 1 tbsp. chia seeds or milled chia - 1 tbsp. flax seeds Step 1: First, we will make our own hemp milk. This is a simple, easy and amazingly delicious recipe, and this is what we will use for the smoothie: To make your fresh hemp milk, add the 3 cups water to a high-powered blender, along with the hemp seeds and dates for sweetness. Blend until smooth and creamy, about 1 minute to 90 seconds. Save 2 cups of the milk for our smoothie, and the rest you can pour into a jar and store in refrigerator! Step 2: Now we will add our milk to the blender, along with the frozen strawberries, chocolate protein powder, raw cacao, chia and flax seeds.
Blend until smooth and creamy, then pour out into a nice, large lovely glass. Top with goji berries and raw cacao nibs (or anything you want, really...that's just what I used) and drink up!
