A late night out with friends can sometimes result in you making poor diet decisions on the way home. You might be tempted to pick up an XXL 10 topping pizza or a gravy filled bucket of fries. Don't fall into a high-calorie trap. Instead, opt into healthy options like these so you don't sabotage your fitness goals!
#1 Broth Based Soup
Any soup that is not cream-based is a great choice for when you're hunting for something at 2 am. A soup like chicken noodle will replenish your depleted sodium levels and give a satisfying sense of fullness without weighing you down. Cysteine is a substance found in soup which helps detox the liver and flush out all of the alcohol in the bloodstream.
Bananas are so convenient to have hanging around the kitchen. They taste great on their own or with natural nut butter. The potassium levels in bananas restore your electrolytes so you don't wake up feeling dehydrated and nauseous the next day.
#3 Whole Wheat
Whole wheat bread helps absorb alcohol because of it's complex carbohydrate structure. You can also opt for whole wheat pasta or whole wheat crackers to prevent a nasty hangover.
Before you go heading to that all-night dinner to binge out on a 24/7 breakfast offer, remember that whole wheat pancakes are the best alternative. They are carb-loaded and fluffy, but also won't bloat you up as much as conventional pancakes. Skip saturating them with syrup or adding in chocolate chips if you can.
Hummus is a delicious and full of vitamin C and folate. It's oily without a high fat content and extremely filling. Dip veggies, whole wheat pitas or healthy chips for a shareable snack!
#6 Veggie Pizza
Okay, so pizza is acceptable as long as it's veggie, thin crust and whole wheat if possible. You can also blot off any grease that pools on the cheese. Choose as many fresh veggie toppings as you can!
What are your thoughts? What foods are your go-to after a night out?
