The Best and Worst Foods to Consume Before Date Night

You are what you eat ... right? When it comes to planning a date night, you want your body to cooperate with what you have planned, so it's important to take the proper measures in making sure things go smooth. First step? Eat for how you want to feel. Here are the best and the worst foods to consume in preparation for your fun evening ahead.

The Best

1. Salmon

Going out for drinks? Skip the empty stomach plan, which will just lead to you getting drunker quicker, and who knows what you'll say after that. Studies say that lean proteins complete with healthy fats take the speed out of alcohol absorbing into your bloodstream. Salmon is a top notch choice.

2. Dark chocolate

Have sweaty palms syndrome pre-date night? You're just nervous. Opt for some dark chocolate, which researchers have found to boost your mood as well as lower your stress levels.

3. Green Tea

For another means of boosting energy, sip on some green tea filled with catechins, which are known for helping with this. And if you want to avoid bad breath, it's a great option too, as the polyphenols found in it are known to prevent the growth of bacteria that can lead to the stinky stench inside your mouth.

4. Pumpkin Seeds

Packed with magnesium, grab a handful of these seeds for ample energy. But stay away from the salty kinds, which will only make you bloated.

5. Turkey

Having a night in with someone special? Turkey is a great option to snack on, as it is filled with tryptophan, which helps produce serotonin, so you'll be cool, calm and collected for a great cuddle in no time.

The Worst

1. Salad

Although leafy greens are amazing, you don't want them to stick in your teeth, so steer clear of salad and opt for watery veggies to munch on, instead. Carrots are a great choice, since they both rid the mouth of odours as well as clear up the debris lingering around in there.

2. Garlic

This is a biggie. Garlic is oh so yummy, but oh so stinky. Even if kissing isn't on your agenda, the serious stench of this stuff will stick around for quite some time, since it gets absorbed into your bloodstream.

3. Beans

Beans may be good for your heart, but they're not so good for the smell in the room, and can even leave you feeling bloated.

4. Artificial Sweeteners

These have indigestible sugars that will also leave you feeling bloated. Aspartame, for example, lowers levels of serotonin and dopamine, leaving your libido and happiness to be compromised.

5. Blueberries

If kissing IS on your agenda, you'll want to come at your date with pearly whites, so stay away from this fruit, which will leave your teeth and tongue appearing blue. It's still a superfood though, so make sure you eat up the good stuff regularly, just not on this particular occasion. What foods have you found to be the best and the worst on date night?
