The Extreme Difference Between Western And Asian Plastic Surgery
Plastic surgery may be widely associated with the U.S., as the need to exemplify beauty standards seems to be ever increasing among Americans. But Asia has been a hotspot for going under the knife even before Hollywood became obsessed. In fact, South Korea is the plastic surgery capital of the world.
However, there is a stark difference between what Westerners seek when they walk into a doctor's office and what Asian patients wish to have 'fixed'. Asian patients request V-Line Jaw Reductions which sculpts a slenderized jaw and a sharp chin.
Whereas Western patients (particularly Caucasians) are born with the opposite bone structure, and often want to widen their jaw using augmentation procedures.
While Asian beauty standards call for a more reduced, less aggressive facial and physical presence, Western culture dictates that in most cases 'bigger is better'. For example, it is extremely rare to find Asian women getting breast implants or butt lifts. They don't favour bulkier jaws or high cheekbones, and often focus primarily on making facial changes.
In Korea, the most popular cosmetic procedures apart from the V-Line Jaw Reduction include Rhinoplasty, utilized to reduce the size of the nose. There is also Teeth Capping, which applies veneers over discoloured or damaged teeth. Finally, Epicanthoplasty which rounds and widens the look of the eyes.
What are your thoughts? Have you ever undergone a cosmetic procedure?
