This Food Is as Healthy as Running and Giving Up Cigs
You may be aware that cigarette smoking is bad for you, if not deadly. You're aware there is definitely such a thing as too much sodium. And if you appreciate your booze, you may be in the know that specific types in moderation are actually heart healthy. But did you know that ingesting a hefty amount of protein-rich foods might actually be just as beneficial as running, giving up salt, alcohol and cigarettes.
After comparing the impact of seven different amino acids found in both plant as well as animal protein on heart health from the data of TwinsUK, they found that those who ingested the most amino acids had lower blood pressure as well as arterial stiffness, which is the measure of the elasticity of your arteries.
What's even more, the researchers found that of all the seven amino acids studied - which included arginine, cysteine, glutamic acid, glycine, histidine, leucine, and tyrosine -, though they all had a positive impact on blood pressure, it was the plant-based ones that had the strongest effect.
"Increasing intake from protein-rich foods such as meat, fish, dairy produce, beans, lentils, broccoli and spinach could be an important and readily achievable way to reduce people's risk of cardiovascular disease," concluded lead researcher Dr. Amy Jennings.
