This Infographic Explains Why YOU MUST Put A Stop To Food Waste

Did you know that 1/3 of food produced for human consumption each year gets wasted? That's 1.3 billion tonnes! Couple that with the fact that 805 million people worldwide do not have enough food to eat, and you can see that we have a big problem. In the United Kingdom, 15 million tonnes of food gets tossed away every year and the majority of that food comes from consumers. The most wasted foods are fresh vegetables and salad, drinks, fresh fruit, and bakery items such as bread and cakes. The cost of this waste for the average household is £470 a year, rising to £700 for a family with children. If people stop wasting food that could otherwise be eaten, the impact on the environment will be immense. It would the equivalent to taking 1 in 4 cars off the road! In the UK alone, food waste accounts for 4.5 tonnes of CO2 emissions. In 2014, the House of Lords conducted an inquiry into the cost of food waste in the EU. It found that 89 million tonnes of food is wasted in the EU and that number is expected to rise to 126 million tonnes by 2020 if nothing is done. This will not only cost you money but cause immeasurable damage to the environment and our society.
