Time Crunch: 3 Tips for Hitting Up McDonald's With Caution

Controversial for their food sources, known for their cheap prices, and nonetheless scattering our society, they're a staple in the food world for their irresistible tasty items, and of course, their convenience. Yes, I'm referring to fast food chains. Like it or not, sometimes they're staring you in the eye while your hunger strikes and you have 5 minutes to scarf down something before you're late to a commitment you've made. So if you're in a pinch, and your only option is to drive up to the nearest window, what do you do to ensure you don't overindulge? Though it's a safe thought to think all nutritionists have pre-made meals and snacks in a cooler in their car, the reality is even the health conscious are in a grind sometimes. And what do such diet experts do? They take up that drive-thru with caution. Here are three things to get at McDonald's to ensure you don't take it too far at McDonald's. Jim White, RD, says that "the carbohydrates will take longer to digest than your typical high sugar donut or pastry.” Lunch: Opt for a side salad with grilled chicken. McDonald's A good source of protein and iron, this small meal will help you to stay fuller for longer. Libby Mills, MS, RDN, LDN and spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics says, "Topping the greens with Low-Fat Balsamic Vinaigrette or Family Recipe Italian Dressing makes for a delicious meal that comes in between 290 and 460 calories.” What do you choose to get when you're in a bind and decide to hit up the drive-thru but don't want your waistline to suffer?
