The Treadmill Desk   

OK – who wants one of these? I do! As I sit here and write this post, I could be walking. How cool is that? Treadmill desks are becoming more and more popular – and with good reason. We all know that sitting at a desk all day as work is unhealthy – it is sedentary, and bad on the back and shoulders. When you sit, you burn far fewer calories than when you do just about anything else  - but sleep. Even if you stand completely still, it burns about 50 more calories per hour than just sitting in front of your computer. Walking as you are in front of your computer burns even more calories! Consistent walking has been shown to be a great fat burner without burning muscle.  These treadmill desks are designed for lower speed multi hour walking (1.0-2.0 mph), and the desks that come with it are designed for various heights. Of course if you already have a treadmill at home (or even a bike) you can get a desk and make your own little contraption. But what a perfect way to increase the number of steps you take each day. It is considered unhealthy and sedentary to take less than 5000 steps a day. A lot of us take 3000 steps a day or LESS! This can easily increase your steps to over 10,000 – the number that we all should aim to take each and every single day.
