Leafy green vegetables are the most common missing foods in modern diets. Incorporating dark, leafy greens into your diet is essential to establishing a healthy body. They are full of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Leafy greens help your internal rainforest flourish… they strengthen your immune system, cleanse the body of stored toxins creating an alkaline environment, boost energy levels, help with weight loss, purify the blood, and give you glowing skin!
In my opinion, green smoothies are the perfect breakfast. They are an amazing way to start your day off healthy (I mean, who's in the mood to sit there and chew 3 cups of spinach and kale for breakfast? Definitely not me!) and if made with enough greens, they provide energy to sustain you throughout your morning.
Here’s a recipe that’s loaded with greens, but still tastes delicious and is perfect for the green smoothie newbies out there!
Tropical Green Paradise Smoothie
Ingredients:5 large Kale leaves 3 cups Baby Spinach 2 large Collard Green leaves ½ Banana, frozen 1 cup chopped Pineapple, frozen ½ cup chopped Mango, frozen ½ cup Raspberries, frozen 1 cup Coconut Water or Purified Water Directions: If you don’t have a powerful blender (I love my Vitamix), first blend greens with coconut water then add in fruits and blend until smooth and creamy!
Tip- When your bananas are very ripe; peel them, chop in halves, throw in plastic bags and freeze to make your smoothies creamier!
*When possible, use organic!
