What Is True Happiness?

What is happiness? Many in today's world struggle with finding happiness. But, I think the question should be what does happiness look like?  Many think it revolves around money, style, the way a person looks.  I believe these can benefit your life, make you feel better about yourself, which then leads to happiness.  Although this is the case, I believe that this young man in the picture, Sam Burns, has the perfect example of what happiness truly is. You may have heard about him through a documentary called "Life According to Sam."  He has a very rare disease called progeria, and in brief video below he only weighed about 50 lbs. It results in rapid premature aging, where there are skin issues, heart issues, and other major health issues. Although he had this disease, you can see the happiness in his life and how he overcome challenges. This young man, who is only 17 in the video puts into perspective what happiness should really look like.  Here are his top three tips he shared for living a happy life. 1. I am ok with what I ultimately can't do, because there is so much I can do. As he stated in his first tips on a happy life.  There is so MUCH we can do as humans. As he pointed out, a friend helped to engineer a snare drum, so that he could play in the halftime show.  Sometimes we look so long at the obstacle that we forget that we can get past it. 2. Surround yourself with people that you want to be with. Sam hits the nail on the head. So many times we surround ourselves with people that we don't necessarily want to be around, whether it's friends, family, or even colleagues. 3. Never miss a party if you can help it. As he says, "I don't feel sorry for myself." Instead he keeps moving forward always looking for the best in things, even if he gets extremely sick.  Please watch this video as it gives the perfect example of what a happy life looks like, and how we should all try to lives this way. As you may have heard, Sam Burns passed away this past Friday. This blog doesn't do the young man justice, but I hope that his legacy of life encourages us all. I hope we keep moving forward in the challenges, and face the day with enthusiasm!  Last but not least, please don't be afraid to be happy and to dream big.
