'Underneath we are...' Campaign: Stunning Lingerie Portraits of Real Women
An Australian visual artist captured real women wearing their intimates to showcase the diversity and beauty in every woman's body type.
The 'Underneath we are...' campaign moves away from societal norms and gives the audience a glimpse at the authentic, unaltered and strong bodies of real women. Underneath their clothes these women are skinny, curvaceous, transgender, tall, short, scarred, young, old and above all - beautiful.
The goal of the project is to capture 100 women in an effort to break out of the confines of today's media image of "the perfect body".
“I wanted the images to have a familiar aesthetic, that of which we see in glossy magazines and billboards, but with one distinct difference; diversity of the body," Amy Hermann, the photographer and creator of this campaign explains.
After the project is complete, Amy intends to create a coffee table book featuring all of the wonderful and inspiring imagery.
"Education is key to giving women and men a better understanding and appreciation for the diversity of the female body and the ways in which it grows, shapes and changes over time and with different life experiences." Amy says.
Amy is doing her part to further educate and break down societal beauty and body standards. Campaigns like this and the popularity surrounding them, further move our culture towards a positive change.
