Want to Lose Weight? Here Are 6 Small Bites to Stay Away From
When it comes to losing weight, you have to learn how to live without incorporating those unhealthy, guilty pleasures that have been hindering you for so long. But sometimes you find yourself taking "just one bite" every day to make you feel like you're not utterly deprived. And while deprivation is definitely not the way to go, it's important to understand how these small bites are adding up.
If you only tasted one of these every day for a year, you'd gain a whopping 6 pounds!
1. A bite of pancakes with butter and syrup
60 calories
You might as well not take a bite at all. Instead, swap it for one cup of cut up fruit, or a half a slice of cinnamon-raisin toast.
2. A few sips of a leftover fruit smoothie
50 calories
Many smoothies consist of added sugars. Take a bite from a real fruit, like an apple, instead.
3. One slice of bacon
45 calories
To put this into perspective, one slice is equivalent to seven almonds, two slices of white meat turkey, or a small handful of shelled and salted edamame pods.
4. Crust from one half of a grilled cheese sandwich
60 calories
While kids typically leave the crust, parents will eat up that leftover goodness in a heartbeat. But that bite isn't worth it. Swap it for a reduced fat mozzarella stick or a rice cake covered with a slice of reduced fat cheese.
5. Broken cookie from the cookie sheet
45 calories
This is an all too common temptation for many bakers. Opt for a half of a small banana with a drizzle of sugar-free chocolate syrup.
6. One teaspoon of chocolate hazelnut spread or peanut butter
40 calories
When it's a high-fat spread, you can bet the calories add up fast. Instead, eat a half cup of plain, non-fat Greek yogurt mixed with a teaspoon of cocoa powder, or three thin slices of avocado for similar calories.
Are you a victim of taking any of these "bites" regularly?
