Weight Loss Tips: Shut Up and Slim Down

Shut up and you'll slim down; do you really need any more weight loss tips? Apparently there’s more to be said for chewing with your mouth closed than just minding your manners. Doctors at the Green Mountain Weight Loss retreat encourage guests to have one silent meal a week. That’s right. For 40 minutes there is no talking, music, or external distraction. The idea is to encourage people to think about what they are eating and pay close attention to signals of hunger and satiety. The result is that people eat less and ultimately see better weight loss results. Does it work? We've tested it out and yes, it does - just let your family and friends know what you are doing and why. Otherwise it’s just rude. You can't just spew out weight loss tips with out any reassurance! Try it! If you’re eating with others, it may be useful to set a timer to remind you to put down your fork and check in with yourself and your internal cues. If you’re eating alone, you probably won’t get distracted, though you can use a timer if you think it might help. The key is to shut up for just 40 minutes.
