Weight Loss-What is the Point?

You set a goal, Weight Loss. You scoured the internet looking for every tip and trick to help you reach it.  You tried many diets, spent thousands of dollars, counted calories and even ate food you hated. The Good News: You lost the weight!!  Congratulations! The Bad News: You had to do it, over and over and over again. As a Nutritionist who has spent thousands of hours with weight loss clients, I can tell you that you are in good company.  Everyone at one point or another has thought that regardless of “how” they lose the weight, when they meet their goal, they will be able to maintain it. TRUTH: They (yes I’m talking to you) are WRONG Countless studies have shown that over 80% of people who lose weight will regain it within two years and that number can go as high as 95% after 5 years.  No wonder the Weight Loss Industry is HUGE! Here is what I tell my clients:  “If you start a “diet” that you can not do for the REST OF YOUR LIFE, you have already FAILED”! The most important part about losing weight is HOW you go about it.  Losing weight for the sake of “weight loss” without taking into consideration your health is a huge mistake.
  • Can you eat three twinkies a day and lose weight?
  • Can you drink “seemingly” healthy pre-made protein shakes every day with no live nutrients and lose weight?
  • Can you eat boxed or frozen meals and lose weight?
The answer to all of the above questions: YES However, I promise, you will not keep the weight off and furthermore,  you will be Missing the MAGIC!  The whole POINT of weight loss is greater HEALTH and VITALITY! Many people may tell you that losing weight is a simple calculation of "eating less calories and exercising more”.  However, this is not entirely true.  Not all calories are created equal!  Eating nutrient dense food, which is how I refer to food that is packed with lots of vitamins, minerals, enzymes and disease fighting phytochemicals, is absolutely key to sustained weight loss and optimal health! Although there are many reasons why this is true.  The one that resonates with my clients the most, is how a diet filled with nutrient dense food curbs hunger!!! Think about it this way: The human body makes millions of cells every single minute, but the only way to get the raw material for those cells is through the food you eat.  If you eat meals that are processed, fried, microwaved or low in fruits and vegetables your body will not have the raw materials it needs to make the cells it requires and therefore will send out a "craving" for yet more food! This is one of the reasons we have such a huge epidemic of obesity in North America, we are over-fed and undernourished. aha4aicon My mission is to help educate you on nutrition so that you will know how and what to eat and never have to depend on a gimmicky diet again!  As you will soon learn, I'm committed and  I’m here to listen and answer your questions!  Have you been on multiple diets only to have to start from scratch each time?  Share your story!  Have an opinion, lets hear it! Best in health, Ciara Foy
