This Woman Didn't Let Her Period Stop Her From Running A Marathon!

26-year-old Kiran Ghandi had a difficult choice when her period showed up just before her big race. She made the brave decision to power through, and free-bleed through 26.2 miles! free bleeding running The Harvard Business School graduate and former drummer for recording artist M.I.A. talked to Cosmopolitan about her experience. "It's very painful whenever I get my period. On the first day, I definitely feel nauseous. I feel extreme pain in my stomach. It feels very debilitating. It's as if someone put a knife in my guts." Kiran explains. Kiran prepared herself for the worst, and did a lot of research pertaining to running. She found that chafing often happens with clothing, so she assumed the same might occur with a tampon or pad. This is when Kiran made the decision to free-bleed through the entire race. "Once I started bleeding, I felt kind of like, Yeah! F*ck you! I felt very empowered." Kiran recalls. "So this one older lady ran up by me and she said, "You have your period!" She looked very disgusted when she was informing me about that. And I just say with a thumbs up, 'No way! Didn't realize that. Thank you.'" period athletes Kiran is extremely proud of her accomplishments, finishing the marathon which was held in support of breast cancer research.
