Working out at home is a beautiful thing! You can get yourself into incredible shape without having to leave the comfort of your own home. No need to wait for equipment, no creepy guys watching your every move, no reason to feel shy or embarrassed. It is just you, whipping your own butt into shape.
However, working out from home isn’t always easy. There are so many ways to be distracted in your home, so many things that can come up that will make you want to quit early. Throwing in the towel early does nothing but hurt your progress. So, here are some of our tips to help you stay focused and get the most out of your living room sweat session!
1. Remove the distractions!
When working out at home, there is always something else you could be doing. There will always be things placing demands on your time. Similarly, there will always be things you’d rather be doing. House of Cards marathon, anyone? You need to get ahead of these things. Turn off the ringer on your phone, put the pets in the yard, unplug the television, whatever you have to do, do it. Why leave yourself open to temptation?
2. Create a “workout space.”
If you have a hard time finding the motivation to exercise, create yourself a space you would like to visit. If you have a place “to go,” it will feel more official and you’ll be more likely to workout. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, either. Perhaps just a corner of the room where you lay out your yoga mat and neatly store your weights. Make it yours, embrace it as your space.
3. Make a plan.
There is nothing that wastes time during a workout like figuring out what to do next. Without the pressures you find at the gym — like time limits or people waiting to use the machines, it is easy to just meander through your workout. Time slips away and next thing you know, there is somewhere you need to be and your workout is shot.
One of the best things you can do is have a plan. Know what exercises you are going to do, lay out your equipment and gear and be ready to go. This will help you establish a routine.
