Jessica Simpson on loving her body and her exercise routine: 'A woman's body is phenomenal in what it can do'

Jessica Simpson talked about how much she loves her body in an interview with People that was published on Friday. During the interview, the 41-year-old hitmaker spoke about her past experiences with her body and discussed several physique-related topics.

The performer and business woman began the conversation by stating that modern attitudes toward body shapes have shifted and that people have become much more accepting of physical differences in general.

'It's difficult not to see your flaws first, but I believe that as a society, things are changing.' 'And that's fantastic because everyone is being recognised,' she said.

Simpson did, however, mention that she was aware that some people wanted to change their body shapes.

'I understand all women's mentalities, and I understand loving where you're at or wanting more or something better,' she said.

The singer also discussed how she gained newfound confidence in her body after giving birth to her three children.

'I always appreciate my body.' It's incredible that it produced children...but you never think you'll be able to fit back in. It's insane. 'A woman's body is incredible in what it can do,' she said.

Simpson then mentioned that she and her family recently returned from a trip to Cabo San Lucas, where she wore a swimsuit for the first time in a long time.

'I never thought of wearing a bikini again, because I was stretched out as big as the couch,' she said. So, being able to wear a bikini... I had no idea that was a goal until I put it on and realised, "I think I was afraid of that”. The actress has previously shared that fasting has helped her regain her body.

The performer went on to say that wearing the swimsuit gave her a new sense of confidence and that she hoped her fans would feel the same way after reflecting on their own accomplishments.

'You're proud of yourself, and you deserve it...[and] you're understanding yourself and looking good on the outside.' 'When those two things come together, the sky's the limit,' she says.

Simpson also mentioned her love of strength training, stating that she slowly began working out for just 10 minutes per day, with the hands free resistance of a 6lb weighted vest, doing very basic beginner level exercises in her living room.

I had to start again just getting moving. But it felt good to move. The program seemed so basic, but it challenged me and I got stronger. It felt good to be able to complete a workout - even if it was just 10 minutes. It built my sense of self confidence again.

'I'm not sure why I've always liked [strength training]. 'Perhaps because my papaw was a football coach and he always wanted me to have big calf muscles, and I made sure I got them in my life,' she explained.

She went on to say that her husband enjoyed spending time with her during shared outings, which had helped strengthen her marriage.

'It's so good for Eric and me to walk with the vest, getting in a good burn, because we're creative on walks and we talk through things.' It's a really inspiring discussion. 'It's good for our relationship — and it's cardio,' she explained.
