New Study Reveals Best Exercise for Post-Menopausal Women

Your search for the best exercise for post-menopausal women ends here. A new study conducted by The North American Menopause Society (NAMS) reveals that post-menopausal women can dance their way to better health and fitness.

The study showed that while any exercise will improve health, fitness, and performance, dance has other incredible benefits including:

Self Esteem is Crucial for Post-Menopausal Fitness

Weight gain and a decline in fitness after menopause is a reality for many women. The result is higher bad cholesterol levels, decreased muscle and bone mass, and metabolic disturbances.

The reason for these health issues are in part because of hormones, but research shows they're also in part due to decreasing activity levels. What's more, negatively perceived changes in physical appearance can cause self-esteem to plummet.

However, studies also show that a little exercise can go a long way to keeping you happy, healthy and thriving.

How Dancing Improves Post-Menopausal Health & Fitness

The recent NAMS study showed that dancing as little as three times a week lowered cholesterol levels, improved body composition and fitness and, notably, bolstered self esteem of the participants. 

Dr. Stephanie Faubion, NAMS medical director, says, "This study highlights the feasibility of a simple intervention, such as a dance class three times weekly, for improving not only fitness and metabolic profile but also self-image and self-esteem in postmenopausal women. In addition to these benefits, women also probably enjoyed a sense of comradery from the shared experience of learning something new."

How to Start a Dancing Routine

As little as three days a week of dancing has been shown to provide incredible health benefits for post-menopausal women, so you don't need to commit a ton of time to see and feel incredible results.
