Our 5 Fave Dessert Smoothies
Just because we love our healthy lifestyles doesn't mean we don't love dessert. A healthy lifestyle is a balanced lifestyle, and on the other side of all those protein shakes and kale salads and salmon steaks with sweet potato mash is a world of sweet treats that can give you a toothache just by thinking of them. The thing is, if part of your healthy lifestyle involves shaping up, the split of the balance is not going to be 50/50. It's going to be closer to 80/20, or 90/10. You're simply not going to be able to eat whatever you want, even half of the time, but the cravings for those delectable goodies are going to come, and you're not always going to get to indulge them.
Fear not! Save your salivary glands from working overtime and try out these delish dessert smoothies. They're way healthier than the actual dessert counterpart, and we think just as satisfying.
Chocolate Cake Smoothie
1 serving
- 1 cup almond or dairy milk
- 1/3 cups oats
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp carob powder/flour (see note below)
- 1 tbsp nut butter (any butter works, but we love cashew)
- 1 tbsp chocolate chips (the darker, the healthier)
- 2 ice cubes
Directions:
- Combine the oats and milk in a small bowl and let soak an hour. This will help make the oats smoother, and prevent your smoothie from becoming gritty.
- Once soaking is complete, combine the oats with all the other ingredients except the chocolate chips — and blend until smooth. Add the chocolate chips and blend on low for 30 seconds. This will add a little texture to your treat!
