Practicing self-love today and everyday
Valentine’s Day or not, there are daily reminders that continually surround us concerning what we have or believe we do not have. We scroll through Instagram and see ‘picture-perfect’ relationships and people with flawless and flab-free bodies (and thinking maybe if we looked a little more like that - we wouldn’t be at home watching Netflix).
Let these reminders be motivation. If you see something you want or wish you could have, ask yourself why, and see what you you’ve already got inside of you to attain what you really aspire for. Goals don’t come easy or instantly -- they require a commitment to no one else but yourself, and it takes longer than a strategically filtered social media post. If getting fit, losing weight, and becoming stronger is your goal, then know that you’ve got every tool right in front of you, plus support from our BodyRock Community.
You have to place an importance on yourself. Would you want be around someone who always made excuses for why they weren’t truly happy? Without sounding cliche, you really have to have a good enough reason to get out of bed and do it for yourself -- as opposed to catering to everyone else instead.
Losing weight isn’t easy, but just like falling in love, we make compromises for the people we care about. FYI: you’ve gotta be number one on that list! Getting a workout buddy, eating right and exercising are great tactics to empower yourself, but even more important is shifting your mentality for ‘have to’ to ‘want to’. Everyday, the power is in our own hands to make positive decisions that significantly impact feeling good about ‘me’.
Here are a few tips to help you get on the right path, or find the path again if you've fallen off track:
1. Remind yourself what you’ve already got
If you’re reading this it’s because you want to improve yourself and continue to develop who you are positively. You on the right track mentally and guess what? That also means you have your health (you’re pretty damn lucky)!
2. Be goal and solution oriented
Today is all we’ve got. So, big or small, challenge yourself daily. Tomorrow isn’t promised and sore muscles from yesterday should be inspiration for a better workout right now (for workout solutions, any time you need them, check out Sweatflix℠)
3. Be kind to yourself
You are human, just like those seemingly effortless species on your Facebook feed. Don’t think getting up early to sweat and skipping dairy is any easier for them. They commit that time to themselves and make compromises (not sacrifices) for what they want.
At the end of the day, that’s why it’s called a work-out, because it’s work - and if you commit to yourself - it will also ‘work-out’ just the way you’ve dreamed.
