Whether you’ve just gotten out of a long-term relationship or are sick of going on bad dates, this post is for you. If you’re stuck in a toxic relationship but are too afraid to be alone, keep reading. If you’re sick of your mom pestering you about settling down, you’re not the only one. “Single”, “unmarried”, and “childless” are often seen as negative terms, but they shouldn’t be.

Independence is making a comeback in a big way, and it’s about time.Research shows   that single people report similar levels of well-being as those in relationships  — that is until someone tries to make you feel like shit about being single. It’s time to kick the pejorative perception of the unattached life to the curb. Keep scrolling to find out exactly how powerful it can be to be on your own, untethered and proudly independent.

  1. Finding Your Happiness

One of the best reasons to celebrate your independence? Suddenly, all that matters is finding out what makes you happy. For some, this might take a bit of soul searching and figuring out what makes you tick (it might have been years since you’ve been able to focus only on yourself!). But now you have the freedom to figure out your hobbies, your self-care routine, and maybe even find a few new friends along the way who share these with you. In fact, studies show that single people may have more satisfying social lives than their married counterparts, so embrace the social side of yourself.

  1. Finding More Time

With fewer responsibilities and priorities that belong to a partner, you’ll have a lot more time to yourself. This might make you feel adrift at first, but your time is important. When you’re not spending it with someone who doesn’t share your values and priorities, you’ll realize even more how valuable it is.

  1. Finding Your Space

This might seem trivial, but being the queen of your own space can do wonders for your state of mind. Being able to curate your home without anyone else’s input, blasting your favourite tunes whenever you feel like it, and simply never having to compromise on your tastes aren’t things you should be in a hurry to lose.

  1. Finding Your Confidence

Being on your own is no easy feat. It takes a buttload of confidence to make it work and come out the other side happy. In fact, with our newfound dependence on social media, we’re becominglonelier and more disassociated than ever. With constant access to pictures and stories of happy family units, it can make being independent incredibly hard, but overcoming that and staying true to yourself shows immense courage and confidence in this day and age.

  1. Finding Your Community

Being independent and happy on your own doesn’t mean you can’t rely on others. Having a community for support is crucial, but it absolutely does not detract from your fierce independence. Whether you find a book club, a fitness family, a mom’s group, or any combination of people that support you and share your interests, a community is important to help you relieve the stresses of your daily life. The BodyRock Insider Group is a great way to connect with likeminded people, share tips and concerns, and get the support you need.

Hopefully this post helped remind you of your individual power, but keep in mind every lifestyle is valid. There’s no “best” way to live, so do what makes your heart happy (even if it takes some work to get yourself to that point!).

Such an excellent article. I can relate to this 100%. Just want to drive home the importance of releasing toxic relationships (all types). This is really key to a life of peace.
