You may have seen on Facebook recently a ‘weight watching’ tip about your bodily gasses. A page called F A C T released a claim that one fart can burn 67 calories and the more you fart, the more weight you can lose in a day.
The tip has been widely shared all over the internet, but are there any scientific facts behind it? The page recommends that farting 52 times a day or more will help you lose one pound of pure body fat. Without giving it much forethought, a lot of people are attempting to increase their gas production to see if it really works. It is no surprise that our body is always burning calories in one way or another. You can breathe out fat while exercising, for example, so farting could also be a way to expel it. Farting causes your abdominal muscles to contract which expends energy. The amount of energy is measurable, but it is not anywhere near the proposed 67 calorie mark.
The best advice when it comes to weight loss is to exercise, eat right and take care of yourself body and soul. Whether you can burn a few extra cals out your booty or not, it won’t be a significant enough amount to trim your waistline.
