A bad breakup in high school lead Laura Payne, now 32, to turn to a destructive disorder that nearly ended her life.

“I look at old pictures now and I look like I’m really ill – my bones were sticking out of my body and I had no boobs or butt.” says the mother of one. “It starts out because you think you are too fat or someone thinks you’re ugly.┬áMy parents were terrified but there was nothing they could do – there was nothing anybody could do.”

In college, Laura began obsessively over-exercising and developed bulimia. She was knocking on death’s door when she plummeted to a fragile 84 pounds. Finally, after years of suffering, someone came along who would change her life and her perspective on fitness.

32-year-old Jason introduced Laura to a lifestyle of training and loving what you eat. Their relationship blossomed and Jason helped bring Laura out of the depths of her disorder and into a new, healthier reality. Laura made the decision to train for bodybuilding competitions. Her weight has doubled and her relationship with working out and eating has improved dramatically.

“My eating disorders are always there at the back of my mind – I’ve just got to keep focused on bodybuilding to ensure I never relapse.” Laura explains.

The couple have a young daughter, Kylee, who Laura attempts to set a positive example for. She hopes that having a strong and healthy mom will help shape Kylee’s outlook on herself.
